SOCIAL
ACCOUNTABILITY
IS THE GROUP'S PRIORITY
"Companies
should participate more in the community's cultural and social
matters, assuming their responsibilities before society"
This is the
opinion of Roberto Mendonça, chairman of the bord, formed
by four companies, with a strong presence in the development of
programs oriented towards the environment, people and their communities.
The Group has created work and professional development opportunities,
besides offering quality services and products to the market.
"Our objective is to contribute to improve Brazilian society,
by strengthening domestic industry by means of new technologies
and work methodologies," stresses the President.
Along its
history, the Pem Setal Group has developed several cultural projects,
contributing to the development of Brazilian culture through grants
to young artists and maintaining or reclaiming cultural spaces
such as the Latin America Memorial, Júlio Prestes Station
and the Augusta Theater, in São Paulo.
To help in
the professional formation of youngsters and their insertion in
the labor market, the company implemented a clerkship and trainee
policy, having attained good results. It has also adopted technical
cooperation programs with international companies to improve its
team's professional development.
Other projects
developed by the Group are the Environmental Preservation Program,
with selective garbage collection, and the Solidarity Committee
of Setal Construções, which provides staple food
baskets to registered needy families and promotes the clothing
campaign during winter.
For its work
in the social area, the Pem Setal Group has already received several
awards, such as the 1999 Performance Award, granted by the Miguel
Calmon Institute of Social and Economic Studies (IMIC) to Pem
Engenharia, and the 1997 Safety Award, granted by Rhodia Ster,
MSF, and Bragussa to Setal Construções.
The Pem Setal
Group is formed by companies Setal Construções,
Pem Engenharia, Pem Participações, T'Trans. Together
they operate in sectors such as chemicals, petrochemicals, oil
and gas, steelmaking and metallurgy, mining, sanitation, paper
and pulp, energy, telecommunications, railway and trolleybus transportation,
and infrastructure in public and private concessions, currently
employing about 3.500 people.
